The gimlet
The same sour poured for gin. Sharp, clean, three ingredients.
At a Glance
Story
The third of the triplet. Two parts gin, one part lime, three-quarters part sweet, and it is a gimlet. The old naval version leaned on bottled lime cordial rather than fresh juice, which is how it kept sailors from scurvy, but fresh lime and a little syrup is brighter and cleaner. Vodka in the gin's place works too, if you want the drink to disappear even further.
Ingredients
- 2 oz gin
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- ¾ oz simple syrup
- a lime cointo garnish
Method
The proof that the ratio, not the bottle, is the recipe. Same build as the margarita and the daiquiri.
- Chill a coupe.
- Shake the gin, lime juice and simple syrup hard with ice for 15 seconds.
- Double-strain up into the coupe.
- Float the lime coin on top.
