Story
The daiquiri is the margarita's twin, the same two parts spirit to one part lime to three-quarters part sweet, just built on white rum. It is named for a beach near Santiago de Cuba and it was Hemingway's drink, though his own version dropped the sugar and doubled the rum. Kept classic, it is the most refreshing three ingredients in the book.
Ingredients
- 2 oz white rum
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- ¾ oz simple syrup
- a lime peelto garnish
Method
Same math as the margarita and every bit as good. If you can make one you can make both.
- Chill a coupe in the freezer while you gather everything.
- Shake the rum, lime juice and simple syrup hard with ice for 15 seconds, until the tin frosts over.
- Double-strain up into the cold coupe so it lands crystal clear.
- Twist the lime peel over the top to throw its oil across the surface, then drop it in.
